MEET SETH ROSE

Seth Rose was raised by his mother Gigi, his aunt Nicki, and his grandparents Bernard and Clida Rose. Growing up in his grandparent's home, the Rose family instilled in Seth a driving work ethic and desire to help others.

As a graduate of the public school system, Seth was recruited and received a tennis scholarship to the University of South Carolina where he excelled both on and off the court. Through hard work, Seth became one of the top collegiate singles players in the nation and one of only six All-American singles selections in USC Gamecock history. In 2014, he was elected to the USC Athletic Hall of Fame for his achievements on the tennis court.

Seth also distinguished himself in the classroom by earning Dean’s List honors and in the university community by serving as a Student Government representative for Gamecock athletes. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in Psychology, with a cognate in Criminal Justice. Seth attended USC’s School of Law where he earned his law degree. He spent several years as a Richland County Assistant Solicitor prosecuting crimes ranging frs om DUI to murder.

Seth took his dedication to helping his community to the next step in 2010 when he declared his candidacy for the District 5 seat on Richland County Council. In that election, he decisively won the Democratic Primary when he earned 67 percent of the vote in a field of four candidates.

Seth and his wife Anna, a pharmacist specializing in geriatrics, were married in 2008 and welcomed the arrival of their first son Cole in 2011. Seth and Anna celebrated the arrival of their second son, Luke, born on Sept. 16, 2013. The Rose family lives in the Hollywood-Rose Hill neighborhood and they attend Downtown Church in Columbia. 

Councilman Rose is the founder of Seth Rose, Attorney at Law, located at 1528 Blanding Street in the Historic Bond House in downtown Columbia's Robert Mills Neighborhood. As a former prosecutor himself, Seth is dedicated to the public safety of his constituents. He has help ushered in proposals that raise the pay and number of first-responders, as well as create additional positions to prosecute violent crimes in Richland County.

Seth has also given his time and energy to helping his community by serving on the Shandon Neighborhood Council, coaching Special Olympics tennis athletes, and being a member of the Gills Creek Watershed Association, Five Points Association and the Columbia Rotary Club. Additionally, Seth is the pro bono attorney for CrimeStoppers of the Midlands and is a board member for the South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce.

During his first year on County Council, Seth was responsible for the "biggest act of transparency in Richland County history" when he wrote the meaure to publicly broadcast council meetings.  He followed this measure up four years later when he led the effort to establsh roll-call voting procedures on council, which requires each council member to be on-the-record when they vote.

Seth was also publicly recognized for his community leadership on County Council and the 2011 recipient of the "Courage in Leadership Award" from the LGBT community in his work to eliminate discrimination in Richland County, in addition to being named a Rising Star in 2012 by the S.C. New Democrats. Most recently Seth Rose was named the "Green Elected Official of the Year" by Keep the Midlands Beautiful, becoming the first local elected official to receive the award.
